About
I am a New York based City Planner, Artist and Writer with a life long passion and curiosity for cities. From an early age I have been drawing and designing imaginary cities - drawing them out in pencil and fine point pen. That passion for drawing and design has evolved into a more recent practice of photoshopping designs and writing about best planning practices.
I don’t think of my work as a single practice, but as several interlocking ones. Landscapes are inseparable from structures, ecology is inseparable from building requirements, and improving the human experience is the ultimate goal of any project. Over the years I have developed an artistic and writing style that encompasses those beliefs.
As a planner, artist and writer, I strive for honesty and clarity. My first job is to understand the client’s desired work or concern and to provide my distinctive perspective. I value timeliness, direct communication and prototypes over presentations, as well as the occasional face-to-face meeting over a beer or a burger.
Over the years, I have been fortunate to work in a wide range of fields from city government and advocacy to real estate development. Each experience has endowed me with an additional nuanced view on the elements that go into planning, designing, building and managing a city.
My hometown is Milwaukee, Wisconsin - a city that remains important to me and central to much of my work. I am a graduate of Marquette University High School in Milwaukee, hold a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Fordham University and a Masters of Arts in Urban Planning from Hunter College in New York City. I am currently employed as a Senior Industrial Planner for the New York City Department of City Planning.
